Text: WORK AS A TV/ FILM EXTRA Have you ever wanted to appear as an extra in a TV show or film, but didn’t know how to go about it? Producers of TV shows, commercials, movies and photographic shoots often use “ordinary” people to appear in their productions as extras or character models. They like to use “real” people, but also people who can take direction and have some level of performance experience – having amateur dramatics experience makes amdram.co.uk members ideal candidates for this work. The great thing about this type of work is that it tends to be occasional and can therefore fit comfortably with leading ones life. Extras earn around £70-£100 per day and the photographic work pays £150-£300 a day, but people are generally attracted to the work by the appeal of appearing with well-known performers in a professional studio environment, and being seen on screen (or in a magazine).
